核子醫學利用微量半衰期的放射性藥劑，可將體內細胞及組織的生理及生化性呈現出來，進而作為疾病診斷及治療的方法。

核子醫學的造影檢查，造影前須先給於檢查者核醫藥物。核醫藥物有許多種，不同核醫藥物可由不同的特定器官吸收，達成特定器官的造影檢查目的。核子醫學的造影儀器，主要是單光子電腦斷層造影儀（SPECT），原理主要是利用加瑪射線撞擊碘化鈉晶體產生閃爍光子並獲取影像，透過其造影方式，我們可以獲得局部、全身及斷層影像。
