Detect 'hidden' myopia! Yang Ming Chiao Tung University Hospital: Mydriatic refraction doubles detection rate, safeguarding toddlers' brilliant futures.

With the arrival of the digital era, the prevalence rate of children's myopia is rapidly climbing globally, and the myopia rate among students in Taiwan is even at the forefront of the world. Vision care has become a guarding challenge that cannot be ignored. The National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University Hospital deeply feels that medical capacity should actively extend to community preventive medicine, demonstrating the specific results of the hospital's many years of deep cultivation in the community and the establishment of a national iconic prevention model. On January 11, 115 (Sun.), the hospital and the Yilan County Health Bureau jointly held the "2026 Yilan Myopia Prevention Seminar" at the Evergreen Resort Hotel Jiaoxi. This seminar will publish research results deeply cultivated in Yilan: through the "mydriatic refraction" examination, the myopia detection rate is more than double that of traditional vision chart screening, detecting double the number of hidden cases, which can effectively fill the detection loopholes of traditional screening and safeguard toddlers' vision.

The Yilan County Government Health Bureau and Yang Ming Chiao Tung University Hospital's affection for the children of Lanyang is further demonstrated by their 'pre-myopia intervention mechanism' that leads Taiwan. The hospital creatively included toddlers who are not yet truly myopic but belong to the high-risk group into follow-up management. The empirical results show that this set of early intervention mechanisms can effectively slow down the speed of refractive error deterioration by 31.8%. This dazzling report card not only brings glory to Yilan but also sets a new benchmark for children's vision care in Taiwan that can be used as a reference.

The specification of this seminar reached the national level, guided by the Health Promotion Administration, Ministry of Health and Welfare, and invited top experts from the ophthalmology field across Taiwan, including National Taiwan University Hospital, Chang Gung Memorial Hospital, Taipei Veterans General Hospital, Shin Kong Wu Ho-Su Memorial Hospital, and Fu Jen Catholic University Hospital, to exchange views on the same stage. The site will deeply explore topics such as outdoor activity prevention, long-acting mydriatics, orthokeratology lenses, soft contact lenses, and new-generation frame glasses. Yang Ming Chiao Tung University Hospital expects to work together to hold up the myopia protective umbrella for Lanyang toddlers through this professional dedication. This is not just an academic event, but also an important milestone for Yang Ming Chiao Tung University Hospital in safeguarding the brilliant future of the next generation.
